Oil on canvas with realgar mineral collage.
The work refers to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The dove of peace symbolises the liberation of the eastern peoples during the Second World War. However, the invasion means that Ukrainians cannot decide their fate. Liberation turns out to be a form of occupation. The dove of peace turns into a hand that seeks to dominate. The gulf represents hatred between the Ukrainian people and the Russian people, generated by the war. The use of the mineral realgar, known for its toxicity and red-orange colour, refers to both the violence and the corrosive nature of the conflict.
